Storage Tips

Step 1 - Label Boxes

Take the time to label the contents of each box with a heavy black marker. Also, be sure to mark boxes with “FRAGILE” that contain items that can easily be damaged or broken, and note which end is up.

Step 2 - Clothing Storage

Make sure all clothing is completely dry and pack in plastic bins that snap shut to help keep your clothing safe from all threats.  Make sure to not overpack the bins to allow air flow. Opt for clear bins so that you can see the items inside.

Step 3 - Keep an Aisle Open In the Center

Don't forget to leave yourself a clear path down the center of your self-storage unit so you can easily access all items. Also, make sure you face box labels towards the aisle so you can read them at a glance.

Step 4 - Create a Stable Base When Stacking Boxes

A heavy box can crush the contents of the box beneath it so be mindful of the weight of each box when stacking.

Step 5 - Keep Refrigerator and Freezer Doors Open

Mold can build up on the inside of the fridge if the door is shut. Leaving it even slightly ajar will prevent this.

Step 6 - Wrap Mirrors and Fragile Items In Padding

Protect your mirrors and anything that can easily be shattered with stretch wrap, blankets, bubble wrap and/or padding.

Step 7 - Disassemble Furniture Items

Look for ways to reduce the size of bedframes, couches, tables and chairs.

Step 8 - Draw a Map Of Where Everything Is and/or Create An Inventory List

Finding the one item you need can be very difficult if you're not organized. Creating an inventory list and making a map of exactly where all your items are located will make it much easier. Then leave it at the front of your unit in a highly visible location.
